In the tradition of 19^th century European Realist and Impressionist painters, Louisville, Kentucky native Guinever Smith’s landscapes explore the dynamic nature of the landscape.  Horizons are a prominent theme in her paintings.  According to Smith, “Often our view is obstructed. Telephone wires, buildings, signs along the road rise up and interfere. But the horizon continues. If we move away from the city, if we walk in the woods, at some point we reach an opening, a place where we look out, and the land meets the sky, at the horizon.”  This meeting of land and sky is the juncture where nature has the potential for repose, power, action, and beauty.
